Volunteer park stewards are active and eager, but currently, a significant amount of time is spent hauling heavy tools back and forth from the Champlain Heights Community Centre. 

We have a vision for a Community Stewardship Basecamp. By transforming a simple shipping container into a custom, solar-powered hub in the heart of the park, we can create a permanent home for stewardship. This can strengthen efforts to heal the park for decades to come.

The Champlain Heights Community Association, ECPC’s parent organization, is spearheading this project with enthusiastic support from the Vancouver Park Board. With donations from the community, support from CHCA, and grants, we are working to make this vision a reality.

Phase 1

Bring Together the Essential Components

• Secure a used shipping container, the future Basecamp

• Outfit it with solar power, batteries, and climate-controlled interior

• In-park site preparations for its placement 

• Professional delivery to the park

Phase 2

Creating the Social Heart of the Park

• An exterior mural created in collaboration with a local First Nation artist

• A community bulletin board to share upcoming events and nature sightings

• A pop-up gathering place before and after events
